Routine and Preventive Medical Services

Our experienced receptionist staff and skilled treatment team will make every effort to accommodate our clients' requests for the scheduling of appointments.

A primary component of our practice protocol is to establish a treatment program for each patient. Each treatment plan is customized to our patient's needs and our client's objectives, and we focus on preventive treatments as well as medical care for any chronic conditions. We regularly follow-up with our clients to check on our patients' progress at home following treatments to reinforce our doctor-client-patient relationships.

Urgent and Emergency Medical Care

Emergency appointments are accepted anytime while our hospital is open; we will make every effort to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. We have a doctor and support staff on duty 6 days a week; this makes our staff available to address the urgent needs of your pets for immediate medical attention. Please call us immediately if you feel your pet needs this emergency or urgent care.

If ever your pet experiences an emergency when our hospital is closed, HAH works closely with Veterinary Emergency Services in Verona, Virginia, to provide seamless treatment plans for our patients.

Should your pet require after-hours emergency attention, call (540) 248-1051.

Dental Care

Your pet's mouth should be checked at least once a year for early signs of a problem and to keep your pet's mouth healthy. Common causes of pet dental problems can be broken teeth or roots; periodontal disease; infected teeth; tumors in the mouth; misalignment of the teeth, or fractured jaws. This evaluation process starts with an oral exam of your pet's mouth, and a radiograph may be required to evaluate the health of the jaw and tooth roots below the gum line. Because most dental disease occurs below the gum line, a thorough dental cleaning and evaluation are performed under anesthesia. Anesthesia makes it possible to perform the scaling (removal of dental plaque and tartar), polishing, and extractions, when necessary, with less stress and pain for your pet; it also allows for a better cleaning because your pet is not moving around and risking injury from the dental equipment.

We offer climate-controlled boarding facilities for our clients' cats and dogs. Cats must be current on Rabies, Feline Distemper-Upper Respiratory (RCP) and Feline Leukemia (FELV) vaccines. Dogs must be current on Rabies, Canine Distemper-Parvo (DHLP) and Bordetella (BV) vaccines. Dogs are required to have a negative Heartworm test within the last year and on Heartworm preventative; a fecal test is required if there is no proof that the dog is on Heartworm preventative. All our boarding dogs will receive a bath prior to leaving.

Online Pharmacy

Harrisonburg Animal Hospital has partnered with VetSource to provide our online pharmacy. This pharmacy enables our clients to conveniently purchase their pets' prescription drugs and medications, as well as flea, tick and heartworm preventatives, and nutrition products. All online items are packaged and shipped direct to our clients' homes. This Home Delivery service allows our clients to receive their pets' medications and nutrition products on a regular schedule without having to place an order each time; this way, there is no chance of ever running out. Our Home Delivery is managed by VetSource to ensure our patients' medications are checked and double-checked by licensed pharmacists to make sure they are accurate and won't react with any other meds a pet may be taking. And, our patients' monthly medications are repackaged into single doses that arrive when the medications should be administered, removing the guesswork around when or what medications need to be given.

Prescription Diet

We offer a full range of prescription food diets through Hill's Pet Nutrition. Their foods are specifically formulated for a range of medical conditions and concerns. We may recommend a diet specifically for your pet, or you may ask us about using a prescription diet and we will talk with you about potential options.
